Pranavi & Jahnavi Chamarthi (Vocal duet)

Pranavi Chamarthi will be a senior at Monta Vista High School this fall, and has been learning Carnatic Vocal music from Smt. Shanthi Shriram for the past 7 years. Smt. Shanthi Shriram is the disciple of her mother and guru Smt. Lakshmi Sundaram, and the granddaughter of Sangeetha Vidwan Sri Sathur A.G. Subramaniam, a great musician of yesteryears.

Pranavi has participated and won prizes in various competitions, including the Papanasam Sivan competition, OSAAT, Naada Nritya, and Kalaaradhana. She has performed in many Bay Area festivals such as the SIFA Thyagaraaja Aradhana, Badarikashrama, and SiliconAndhra’s Annamacharya Jayanthi. Pranavi also participated in the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana in 2012. In January of 2014, she gave her first solo mini-concert and has continued to give more concerts with other Nadalaya students to raise funds for temples, including the Shiva-Vishnu Temple in Livermore and the Shri Raja Rajeshwari Temple. Through her elementary and middle school years, Pranavi was a student of the Chinmaya Mission Swaranjali group. Pranavi is also learning Kuchipudi from Smt. Samidha Satyam for the past 5 years. In 2010, she received a Guinness World Record for participating in the World’s largest Kuchipudi dance in Hyderabad, India. In her spare time, Pranavi enjoys volunteering at events and organizations in the Bay Area and spending time with her family.

Jahnavi Chamarthi will be a seventh grader at Kennedy Middle School this fall, and has been learning Carnatic Vocal Music under the guidance of Shanthi Shriram for the past seven years.

Jahnavi has participated and won prizes in various competitions, including Kalaaradhana and the Papanasam Sivan competition. She has also participated in many Bay Area festivals, such as the SIFA Thyagaraaja Aradhana, Badarikashrama, and SiliconAndhra’s Annamacharya Jayanthi. Jahnavi also participated in the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana in 2014. She has also raised funds for the Shri Rajarajeswari temple with other Nadalaya students. Jahnavi is an active member of her middle school choir and has been learning piano for the past 4 years. Jahnavi is also learning Kuchipudi from Smt. Samidha Satyam for the past 5 years. She has received two Guinness World Records for participating in the World’s largest Kuchipudi dance in Hyderabad, India. In her free time, Jahnavi enjoys spending time with her friends and family.

Keerthi Sundaramurthy (Violin)

Keerthi Sundaramurthy is a Sophomore at UC Berkeley pursuing Pschycology and Cognitive science as her majors. She learns violin from Dr. Saravanapriyan Sriraman, disciple of Sri Lalgudi GJR Krishnan. Keerthi has performed at various places and regularly accompanies junior and senior artists in and around Bay Area and Sacramento.

Keerthi is also a carnatic vocalist and is a student of Sri Ajay Namboodiri, disciple of Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan.

Arun Shriram (Mrudangam)

Arun Shriram is a senior at the Harker School. For the past ten years, he has been learning Mridangam from his father and guru, Sri. Shriram Brahmanandam. Sri Shriram is a disciple of Sri Harihara Sharma, Sri C.V. Kuppuswami, and Sri Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyer. Arun is also the grandson of Lalgudi Srimathi Brahmanandam, a renowned violinist.

Arun received first place in the junior and sub-junior percussion categories in several Cleveland competitions. He also performs in various Bay Area festivals, including the San Francisco World music Festival, SIFA, and Trinity Center, and regularly accompanies junior artists. In his spare time, Arun likes to draw, study science, and lead the percussion section of his school’s orchestra.

Shreya Kumar (Vocal)

Shreya Kumar began her musical journey at the age of 4, under the tutelage of her current guru, Smt. Geetha Iyer of Geetha Vidyalaya. Infact, she was so passionate about music, that it was Shreya who pushed her mom to enroll her into music than vice versa. Shreya has performed at Lotus when she was 5 in a group performance, and has also participated in various local bay area events like Guruvandhanam, and won prizes at Kala Aaradhana, Papanasam Sivan competition etc.

Shreya also enjoys singing light music and western music and is a regular performer at her school’s talent show.

Shreya also learns Bharatanatyam from Smt. Deepa Mahadevan, and plays the flute at her school’s wind ensemble band. She will be an incoming freshman at Mission San Jose High School this fall.

Keerthi Sundaramurthy (Violin)

Akshay Aravindan (Mrudangam)

Akshay Aravindan is a disciple of Sri. Kumbakonam Swaminathan. Akshay started his Mirudangam training under Sri. Ravindrabharathy Sridaran at the age of 7. He has won many competitions like the Cleveland Aradhana Festival, Papanasam Sivan competition, Osaat and accompanied many schools in various venues.

Apart from Mridangam, Akshay is an active basketball player and he is part of his school's JV team. He is also a student of Piano and currently completed Level 7 Certificate of Merit exam.

Akshay is a 9th grader in Mission San Jose High School.
